Ask Dr. Max
Welcome to my Substack
Hello! I am Dr. Max Dean Goldstein, a board certified Family Medicine Physician, new dad, and animal lover with a hobby farm and garden and a husband who’s an art curator. I’m based out of Los Angeles and see patients of all ages (newborns to centenarians). I love health education and writing, so I’m here to share balanced medical information for the most common ailments that families ask about, plus any advice I have about caring for chickens, sheep or sunflowers.
This is a space for everybody. I’ll have weekly essays related to these categories:
Medical Info
Does your child really need antibiotics for an ear infection?
What exactly is Pink Eye?
Let’s dive into the hepatitis B vaccine
Op Ed
The importance of boredom for your child.
The difference between healthspan and lifespan
Patient stories
Stories from my favorite patients over the years
Ask Dr. Max
A space for you to submit any question you may have and I’ll do my best to answer these. Everything will remain anonymous. Think Dr. Ruth meets your primary care physician
Personal stories
The time I swam from Spain to Morocco across the Strait of Gibraltar
How I slept in a yurt for 4 years while going to UCLA Medical School
Lifestyle
This is our lifestyle column, curated by my extra special husband, Jay. Where do we get the clothing for our daughter? Where do we get our chickens? What books am I reading right now? He wants to call this column: Something Persian, something gay, something Jewish, live like Jay. Unfortunately that doesn’t fit in a header of a website, so lifestyle it is, but the subtitle will always be the above
From the young to the old, I know a lot about every little ailment that may come your way. Plus with our 4 sheep, 23 chickens, a cat, bees and a 1/2 acre garden of calendula flowers that I grow for my collection of diaper ointments and baby balms that you can find at drmaxs.com, there will be something in here for all of you. And if you don’t find it, just submit your question!
Looking forward to building this community with you!
Love,
Dr. Max
